ND vs VA Tech Highlights 2021

3:55 minutes and Jack Coan goes into Notre Dame lore. That’s the time left for Coan to lead two drives that resulted in a touchdown 2 pt. conversion and a FG by Doerer to complete the comeback for the win.

I don’t think I ever remember anything like this. QB is replaced by a freshman Buchner who started the comeback, gets injured and gets replaced by the guy who was benched. This looks like a movie in the making.

Coan and Doerer get game balls.

The OL played a lot better – not great, but they came thru in the comeback.

Defense is getting shaky at times and I just don’t know why Jordan Bothelo doesn’t get more time. Anyhow, ND is now 5-1 going into the bye week with USC coming up.

ND vs VT predictions
Notre Dame vs Virginia Tech Predictions

Both of these teams seem to mirror each other. Both have weak OL’s and good defenses. VA Tech has 13 sacks in their 1st 4 games and 6 turnovers VA Tech is 3-1 and had a bye week.

Notre Dame has possibly the worst OL in College football and they are currently working on their 4th LT who is a freshman.

ND finally gets the big OL recruits, but their legs give out. Outside of their center, ND is simply atrocious and not improving. They basically have 2 All American RB’s yet they can’t gain a yard.

I’ve been ranting about Spindler not being given a shot at LG but then I hear they have him on the FG unit – so they just wasted 1 year of his eligibility.

Kelly has a way of getting in the heads of his QB’s negatively. So I don’t know who starts this week – the wooden indian or the dual threat. Nothing to lose so I would start Pyne. The kid has like a maverick attitude and that’s what we need. Kelly will start Coan.

Score Prediction: Notre Dame 28 VA Tech 20

Ian Book Game Winning TD
Ian Book Game Winning TD

Well the bookies took a hit on this one giving ND winning by 17 and next up is Duke who thrashed Virginia Tech 45-10.

Say what you want about Ian Book, but he sure did a masterful job taking ND 87 yards with 3 minutes left calling 18 plays and running in the winning TD.

Book has certainly regressed from last year, but I’m putting a ton of blame on OC Chip long. He was absolutely schooled by VT long time DC Bud Carson. Once again it looked like the opponent knew just about every play Long was dialing up.

ND still cannot run the ball so everything is on Books shoulders. Sure he had 2 picks but he threw like 50 passes for 341 yards.

He just is not comfortable running the plays Long is dialing up and it’s throwing him off. Without Chase Claypool we would be in a world of hurt.

I don’t know what they are going to do in their last games – it might be too late to fix this. Right now Duke scares me.

I think there are 2 more losses out there. And I doubt if Book comes back for the 2020 season considering the abuse he’s been getting. PJ doesn’t look like the answer as he looked disinterested in what was going on.

Brian Kelly still does not get it – you build your offense around the players you have not jamming some half-assed offensive scheme. Remember both Kmet and Claypool will not be around in 2020.

ND vs VT predictions
Notre Dame vs Virginia Tech Predictions

Virginia Tech is 5-2, same as ND. They beat Miami and in their last game vs North Carolina they won in 6 OT’s. So these guys are not going to fold against ND.

They have a good coach and dual threat QB’s

I think ND is not ready to roll the rest of their games and I believe ND will lose this Saturday.

ND has an OC Long who is so conservative that other teams seem to figure out ND’s plays or tendencies. That together with the ND QB going downhill fast will determine the outcome.

ND vs Virginia Tech Highlights

After a few fits and starts ND blew the doors off VT’s stadium led by the explosive ND RB Dexter Williams. Williams had a 97 yard TD run totaled 178 yards with 3 TD’s.

Ian Book was brilliant at times and erratic at times, but still finished 25/35 271 yards and 2 TD’s and 1 pick. He looks like he has a little Baker Mayfield in him. WR Boykin kicking it in had 8 catches 117 yards and 2 TD’s.

VT was held to 7 2nd half points. ND would have gone over 50+ points if Book did not overthrow wide open receivers. On that point WR Finke Number 10 was open the whole game.

ND defense played very well with DL Kareem popping the ball from QB and Julian Love had a 42 yard scoop and score.

Cloud on the horizon – VT rolled up 441 yards mostly in the air so there is a lot of work to do on pass defense.

Next up Pitt at home.

Notre Dame vs Virginia Tech Predictions

Notre Dame’s Defense is going to win this game along with FG kicker Justin Yoon. Unfortunately for us, Tech’s new QB lit it up against Duke in his first start 31-14.

QB Ryan Willis passed for 332 yards and 3 TD’s so our defense has to light this guy up in his 2nd start. Get him shaky by pressure and sacks starting early.

We don’t want him to emulate ND’s Ian Book. We’ll see if the ND defense will match the accolades heaped on them. DT Tillery really has to come through.

Ian Book has to continue building on his last two games in a very loud hostile stadium and against an excellent defensive coordinator in Bud Foster. If Book can maintain his composure and the ND OL can protect him we can win this game despite the loss of LG Alex Bars.

ND really needs a 2nd RB to give Dexter Williams a break. I look for ND to go 2 TE’s to help the Left side of the OL.

Lots of offense in this game, but ND gets into the 40’s.
