ND vs Stanford Gameday 2014

Four games into the season and it is quite obvious that the real strength of this team is the passing game with a lot of very good receivers – Robinson, Fuller, Brown, Carlisle, Hunter, Prosise and Koyack. Add to that the receiving ability our our RB’s out of the backfield.

So I would speed up the offense, spread Stanford out and go all Mike Leach on Stanford and pass, pass, pass all over the field. I mean really amp it up and score points in bunches.

The object would be to force Stanford to play from behind the entire game. Two back sets, reverses, double reverses – just drive them crazy. Roll Golson out – pass or run. Golson just has to be accurate and not turn the ball over.

He has been exceptionally sloppy holding the ball and handling it as he does, he’s easily stripped. I would pass until Stanford drops off the line of scrimmage and then run and run out the clock.

I’m not looking to play smashmouth with them, I want them on their heels. Of course the OL has to protect Golson – if it does and we don’t give up turnovers ND should roll all over Stanford.

I’m not buying that the Stanford defense is that good – no where near what they had last year.

Notre Dame on defense main goal should be to get to the QB – he’s only good if he has time to sit back and go through his reads. Stanford lost a lot of their starting OL from last year, so they are not as strong upfront.

David Shaw is not Jim Harbaugh and he goes down in flames this year if Kelly turns this offense loose and plays not just to win but to embarrass them.

Notre Dame 42 Stanford 24
