Brian Kelly addresses issues going into the start of camp on Aug. 4th.
- DL Tony Springmann’s career is over. He unfortunately just could not overcome back problems.
- Ben Councell is cleared and ready to go.
- Jarrett Grace, surprisingly should be ready for Rice.
- TE Durham Smythe – Kelly really likes this kid.
- OL freshman Quenton Nelson will play this year – my opinion.
- Everyone else – the usual – bigger stronger faster and all very smart.
So a week away at Culver Academy then back to campus to finish up.
Brian Kelly is not ready to name Everett Golson as a starter. I may be completely wrong, but I would not be surprised if Malik Zaire takes over before the season is over.
Golson had some meltdowns in critical situations in the past. In any event, Zaire just has to get some playing time and not just mop up.
Finally, all plans could get fffed-up with a rash of injuries.
