Ohio State 44 Notre Dame 28 – Highlights And Recap

Nothing really unexpected happened yesterday as OSU put up a fast 14 points and then just played around for the rest of the game. Periodically OSU would gather themselves and put up some more points with Elliott simply running over anyone who tried to tackle him including Jaylon Smith. He really crushed 250 lb Jarrett Grace. To their credit ND didn’t quit and at one point came within 7, but then Elliott then ran for like a 70 yard TD.

Very few bright spots outside of a Kizer to Fuller 70 yd TD pass and some strong running by Josh Adams. Adams will be a force next year.

The WR’s played quite well while the entire OL really sucked. This OL all 4-5 star recruits and the supposed strength of the team displayed no strength nor grit when going against OSU’s 2-3rd team DL.

In one incredible play I’ve never seen before in any football game, LG Quenton Nelson backpedaled furiously right past Kizer without ever touching anyone and Kizer was drilled – somebody please GIF that.

At the start of the game OSU All American DE Joey Bosa 6’6″ 275 had the entire OL terrified. He started by tossing TE Smythe like a rag doll, pushed 6’7″ 310 lb McGlinchy into the ball carrier, moved down and brutalized LG Elmer and blew past RG Nelson.

Then he speared Kizer and got tossed out of the game. I agree with the roughing the QB call, but not the expulsion. Had he played the entire game probably Kizer and the OL would all have ended up on crutches.

Bosa is a great player, but how easy was it for him to throw around 300+ ND OL? That front 5 need some serious strength and balance training. And what about OL coach Hiestand?

Now defense – just like last year they were injury decimated. Everyone seems to have ankle injuries and Day played sick and on one leg while Cage could barely walk.

With all this going on Jerry Tillery, knowing the absolute need for him to play gets suspended by Kelly. I didn’t miss Redfield. I’ll take a gamer like Farley any day.

LB’s – Smith gets shoved and shatters a knee, Coney comes in and goes right out with an injury. Grace comes in and plays well, but still has 2 years rust. Joe Schmidt – gotta love this guy, but he would have a hard time starting for Indiana.

I think I’ll give VanGorder a pass. 2 years and no players, everyone injured. I think he wanted to run blitz all day but seemed to me Kelly said no. He’ll go if an NFL team wants him.

Finally, Strength and Conditioning – I see no results just an extraordinary number of injuries. Something is going on here with almost every player having issues especially involving ankle injuries. We need an expert to come in and study this. Lets start with the shoes. I think it was Stanford that did an exhaustive study and came up with a completely revamped S&C program.

After seeing Jaylon go down, any ND player that might get drafted will go regardless of the round and that includes Fuller.
