ND vs Michigan Gameday 2014

It seems like an annual tradition. Michigan plays better and smarter as well as tougher with less talent than Notre Dame. In this game the same is true. It’s another night game, national tv and a big ND recruiting weekend all of which portends that ND will once again go down in flames.

Devin Gardner (QB) usually plays sensational against us while the rest of the year he generally sucks. We, apparently, like to get the Michigan QB’s into the Heisman discussion early in the year. With our Safety performance last week Gardner has the ability to light it up Saturday night. Our 4 down had trouble putting pressure on the Rice QB and while the Michigan OL is not great it is far better than Rice.

Coach Brady Hoke, no great light bulb is 2/3 vs. Bryan Kelly. It’s ND that generally beats ND in these Michigan games, while at the same time lets the Michigan QB run and pass all over ND. It appears that UM is weak right up the middle but I suggest it will be Michigan that runs over our smallish ILB’s.

I mentioned before that I did not like Jaylon Smith as an ILB. Well, perhaps in this game he just spies Gardner but I would really like him coming off the edge. He reminds me of the great Lawrence Taylor LB NY Giants and I would use him like they did – lines up all over the place but was a real sack machine.

I think Michigan loads the box and blitzes incessantly and gets to Golson early and often. Our OT’s worry me a lot in this game.

I believe ND once again comes out lethargic, falls behind and just can’t catch up. Michigan QB has a big night and just about ruins our September once again. Hope I’m way off base and ND puts up 40 and wins but just don’t see it happening.
