Thud. With so much on the line and style points needed ND came out almost disinterested and put on a lousy display of football against a bad team with only about 6 seniors. And just before the game Wake dumped a starting DT for 3 games – replaced with a freshman.

Surprisingly, Wake did manage to handle Fuller. They held him to one long catch, yet here too Wake had good coverage.

Kizer had problems passing primarily because the other receivers were also covered and the OL was once again soft. You have to see the ND RG spun sideways and pancaked. Then the LG totally whiffed leading to a sack. He and the C have an excuse playing with high ankle sprains.

Defense:

  • Once again the middle of the field was wide open.
  • With Cage out and Tillery in – he did very little – just too polite.
  • Without Sheldon Day and Jaylon Smith we lose this game.

Offense:

  • We scored 21 points in the 1st half including a pick that slipped out of the QB’s hands right at Trumbetti.
  • Then a ND stop on their own 1yd line and a record 98 yd run by Josh Adams.
  • ND did not score in the 3rd quarter and Kizer ran it in for a TD to get to 28 points.
  • So a whopping 7 points for the 2nd half.

STATS:

  • Total Yards: Wake 340 ND 282
  • Rush Yards: Wake 121 ND 171 (includes Adams 98)
  • Pass Yards: Wake 219 ND 111
  • Time: Wake 34 min ND 24 min

The Wake coach was right – they won every facet of the game. They just lost most the most important aspect, scoring.

Now this is the same Wake team that was waxed 50-14 by North Carolina (9-1).

Then, Stanford loses to Oregon. With all the 9-1 teams out there ND probably just ejected itself from the number 4 Playoff position.

If that happens then look for Boston College to knock them off. At this point North Carolina is coming on the strongest down the finish.
