Matt Hegarty

The starting offensive center on the 2014 squad is bypassing a fifth year at Notre Dame. Matt Hegarty, will graduate this May after a frank discussion with Kelly and Hiestand.

ND just has too many quality OL who are primed to jump Hegarty on the depth chart, namely Quenton Nelson and Alex Bars – 2 stars who’s time has come.

Nick Martin will move back to center, leaving an opening at LG which probably will go to Nelson, while Bars might take the RG position from a somewhat disappointing and erratic Steve Elmer.

Hegarty had a very tough uphill road after suffering a stroke and while now healthy simply did not have the size or strength to anchor the OL.

Hegarty leaves on a positive note and would have a good shot with Chuck Martin, Miami Ohio or at UCONN with Bob Diaco.

Great kid, fought through a very tough battle and we hope he has success elsewhere and the best part is he leaves with the cherished ND diploma.

Good Luck Matt Hegarty.
